The Mountainhome Herald was established in Year 89 when Urist McDwarfquill, frustrated by the unreliability of goblin-transmitted rumours, carved the first edition onto slate tablets in his workshop on Z-Level 2. The Herald has since grown into the Grand Duchy's most widely read independent news source, covering politics, crime, economics, culture, sports, and weather across all fortress levels.
The Herald survived the Siege of Year 204, the Great Magma Flood of Year 251, and two changes of Grand Duke, maintaining editorial independence throughout. In Year 309 it transitioned from stone-carved tablets to rune-wire distribution, making same-day delivery to all z-levels possible for the first time. In Year 312, the Herald adopted a rolling news model, publishing stories as they break rather than in fixed daily editions.
The Mountainhome Herald is committed to accurate, timely, and impartial reporting on all matters affecting the citizens of the Grand Duchy of Eldoria. The Herald operates independently of the Arcane Council, the Grand Duke's office, and all registered guilds and commercial entities.
All articles are subject to review by the Editor-in-Chief prior to publication. Corrections are published as updates to the original article with a visible "UPDATED" timestamp. Letters to the Editor must be submitted in Dwarven Standard Script and are subject to length restrictions (maximum 200 runes). The Herald does not publish anonymous submissions from goblin sources.
The Herald accepts no advertising from entities currently under indictment by the Fortress Guard, nor from known associates of the Undead Commerce League. Sponsored content, where it appears, is clearly marked with the designation "PAID STONE."
